Premier Oil Balmoral Abex

Scope of works

James Fisher Offshore were pivotal to the successful cutting and removal of a subsea wellhead protection structure in the Balmoral field.

Prior to mobilisation, our client witnessed an onshore trial at our UK headquarters to replicate the cut procedure, matching the largest cut and setup of the test cut at a 55 degree angle.

JFO's 1950Te hydraulic shear 'Tiny' successfully completed the following 32 subsea cuts:

  • 36" (914mm) dia 19.1 WT - 4 cuts (steel grade API 5L X52)
  • 30" (762mm) dia 17.5 WT - 4 cuts
  • 20" (508mm) dia 14.3 WT - 12 cuts
  • 6.5/8" (168mm) dia 7.1 WT - 12 cuts

Scope of Supply

The scope of work was completed faster than expected with 4 x 30" cuts completed in 12 hour and the 4 largest cuts (36" OD) completed in an average of 5 hours per cut.  These times included deployment, cut and recovery.

JFO provided rigging arrangements for deployment and recovery as well as working closely with the client on the methodology and interfacing of JFO topside equipment to operate the clients own suite of equipment.
